Welcome to Coverdale Vet

We want your visit to Coverdale Veterinary Hospital to be the best veterinary experience you ever had! We are all animal lovers here and we work hard to create a warm, inviting and comfortable environment for you and your pet. This commitment to care has led us to be Atlantic Canada’s first Fear Free Certified Veterinary Hospital.

What to Expect at a Fear Free Certified Practice.

Choosing a Fear Free Practice has many benefits for your pet, not only in reducing fear and anxiety during their visit but in so doing, allows us to do a better evaluation of your pet’s health and obtain more accurate diagnostic test results. This begins with asking you to wait in your car until we have an exam room ready for you. You & your pet can then enter the building in a quiet, calm manner to get weighed and settle into a room. We provide toys and treats to help your pet relax and water or coffee for yourself! If you brought toys or treats from home this is a great time to bring those out as well.

Why Fear Free Care Is the Right Choice for Your Pet | Fear Free Happy Homes

Prior to your visit, one of our experienced veterinary technicians would have collected your pet’s history so we are familiar with their nutrition and daily routine. This allows us to be sure to highlight any concerns or risks factors that your pet may be facing and to be sure that we are offering individualized recommendations specifically for your pet’s lifestyle. They should have also reviewed any concerns you may have. If anything has changed since you spoke with them, please alert the team member assigned to your visit today. If you require any food, treats or refills today, please let our team know on arrival so we can have that prepared for you.

If the primary care giver is not able to attend today’s consultation in person, but would like to join in via facetime, we encourage you to connect with them for the duration of the appointment as one of our veterinarians will examine your pet, answer your questions and may recommend diagnostic tests if deemed necessary. Do not hesitate to ask for an estimate at any time and our team will be happy to provide one for you.

We recommend annual wellness testing on all patients as it allows us to monitor your pet’s health on the cellular level for the earliest possible detection of concerns so early intervention can be provided before problems escalate. This is done through a sample of blood, feces (poop) and or urine.

Wellness Testing for Dogs – Coverdale Veterinary Hospital

We are proud to have an expansive, on site laboratory where we can run comprehensive testing here in hospital. Depending on the urgency of the case, results may be available during your appointment or within 1-2 business days. The doctor will report results in person or by email so you have a copy for your records and will discuss a possible diagnosis and treatment plan if warranted.

Always ask questions during your visit! Our veterinary team wants to make sure you are completely comfortable with the information we are providing.

At the end of your visit your exam room assistant will review the doctor’s findings, recommendations, and medications with you and answer any wellness and care questions you may have. They will process your payment and schedule your next appointment either in the exam room or car side- wherever you and your pet are most comfortable.

Please note: Our goal is to see all of our clients and patients on time, and although we have contingencies for emergencies, there will be times where the unexpected will create delays. We will always take the time a pet needs without rushing or forcing them beyond their comfort level, so despite our best efforts, at times we may run behind. We try to schedule appropriately to minimize this as much as possible, though rest assured that we will offer the same patience and care to your pet.
